Strengthen o Lord, we pray,

by the Holy Spirit your children who are now before you, preparing to seek your help in the sacred rite of confirmation and grant that boldly confessing you before all people, they will walk steadily in the way of life and serve you faithfully all their days, and we ask this through our Lord, Jesus Christ your Son and our Redeemer.

Amen.

Confirmation is the sacrament conferred upon persons old enough, in the case of the Church in Wales, 11 years old, to understand it. It is ‘performed’ by a diocesan bishop or a suffragan (assistant) bishop.

The bishop lays his hands on the head of the person to be confirmed which signifies the receiving of the Holy Spirit. The adult or child is also confirmed into full union with the Church and is henceforth entitled to receive communion and to take a full part in the Eucharist service.

The parish priest or other authorised person usually will hold a series of introductory meetings fully explaining the meaning and the expectations of the Church.

Confirmation is the highlight in the

life of Christians and of the

 Christian family.
